O Canada!
Our home and native land.
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
A quick history of Canada Day:
On July 1, 1867 three of the colonies in British North America were made into four provinces. These provinces became Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. They then became known as the Dominion of Canada.
On June 20, 1868, Governor General Lord Monck issued a proclamation that on July 1, 1868 Canadians should join together to celebrate the anniversary of the formation of the Dominion of Canada. This proclamation was published in the Canada Gazette on Saturday, June 20, 1868.
On May 15, 1879, Royal Assent was given to “An Act to make the first day of July a Public Holiday by the name of Dominion Day”
On October 27, 1982, Dominion Day, which is on July 1st, became to be known as Canada Day.
