How to: Convert movies to your PSP
Here is step by step to show you how to convert all your movie files to mpeg-4 format and play it on your PSP.
Required software:
- 3GP Converter - Download - Link
- QuickTime Player - Link
THE STEPS:
1 - Download 3GP Converter and extract to a folder.
2 - Run it by clicking “setup.exe” in folder “3GP_Converter031″
3 - Choose the option “English” from the drop down menu. (This is Japanese software version)

4 - Above, choose your encoder to “Model: MP4, for PSP” and click Apply.

5 - The “Model: MP4, for PSP (Direct, renamed)” encoder option is for you to encode and rename automatic directly to your memory card. This option is required you connect directly to your PSP using a USB 2.0 cable. I think this option is good when you don’t want to save the movie to your PC hard-drive. I assume you want to save it to your hard-drive, so go next step.
6 - After clicked Apply, you will see another screen, which you consider important step for your movie quality. There are bunch of lists, choose your one. Remember, it’s your movie, the more movie quality the more KBs space required. For my taste I choose: “QVGA/15fps/216kbps Stereo/96kbps“. It’s up to you to choose, go ahead.
7 - Now choose your “Output Directory” where your converted file is located.
8 - Drag and drop your file to the “Drag and Drop here” box.

9 - It will automatically run the encoder after you Drag and drop your file.
10 - Check your output directory for 2 files with .MP4 and .THM extension. You see it? Good.
11 - Now, the fun part is Rename your encoded movie files. You must rename it to “M4Vxxxxx.MP4” where “xxxxx” is 5 digit numbers, eg. 12345, 54321, 49013, whatever you like to be. You also want to rename your .THM file same as the one with “M4Vxxxxx.THM”. Image below will look like if you rename correctly:

12 - In your memory card, create a root directory called: “MP_ROOT“, inside “MP_ROOT” folder create another folder called “100MNV01”
13 - Upload these 2 files to your memory card under directory structure “MP_ROOT/100MNV01/” and fire up your PSP!
14 - Happy PSPing…
